The title "Unknown Brothers" is taken from an eponymous comicfrom Lau.

The comic describes a story of a little boy who lost his hope and ran to the rooftop to take his life. Standing on the edge of the roof and facing those buildings opposite, the little boy, through windows, saw other children being cared and loved by their parents at their warm and loving homes.

For a child who had no father or mother, such cosy and homely scenes made him extremely envious...

The see-through composition of the left illustration reflects Lau’s skilful manipulation of visual space. With the application of various perspectives, the image expresses the emptiness and hollowness of the child’s inner mind.
